Weekend Sunshine

Lots of dreaming in the garden today, and some weeding, but then I spied the aphids on the roses and I had to attack them.

I hope they have a big pain in the tummy tonight .  .  .

On a crafty note, I have been asked to have a go at turning this wedding dress into a quilt for a newly married couple.  It is a huge challenge, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever done anything like this before??  Any advice/tips??

Your garden is looking lovely - except for the aphids!!! What a brilliantly scary project that wedding dress/quilt is going to be! No ideas from me though! Sorry! Lucy x

I'm new to patchwork but given the beautiful embroidery and the lines, I would work out how many I could get from what and see if that would make a good design like an embroidered frame look on the corners with maybe some lined pieces joining them, and the plain more in the centre with maybe a central motif? Sorry I'm not a lot of use.

Ouch poor you with the aphids. Some of my older varieties of rose seem to be caviar for the nasty blighters. Dilute washing up liquid is meant to be a deterant.

beautiful pics Annie, apart from the aphids of course! What a lovely idea for a wedding dress, not quite sure how to go about it but I would make it simple I think to lessen the room for error?

The aphids are bad here at the moment but I don't like spraying them because if the birds. No advice on wedding dress quilts. I would find that a terrifying project.

Here's hoping those pesky aphids well and truly have bad stomach aches! Your photos are beautiful Annie. Yikes-that is a huge job-good luck I'm sure you will come up with something very special. Back to school for me tomorrow-I like holidays better!

I think I had better go and take a closer look at my roses.
On the wedding dress......... I have collected some of the fabric from my grandmothers and my mothers and mine, wedding/going away dresses and deb dresses. They were all sewers so there were pieces left over without cutting up the actual clothes which was lucky. I am plnnning a crazy sort of patched throw quilt for the bottom of a bed. I had differing quantities of each fabric plus lace etc. It won't be huge, more of a family heirloom quilt. Hope this helps, it seems a shame to cut up the dress though.

Love the garden, sorry about the aphids! I have never made a quilt from a wedding dress. I will be interested to see how you do it.

Beautiful images. I can get the sense that it was a crisp day... and the aphids make for a cool photo (unfortunately for the plant).

I would for sure go with a crazy quilt motive! Maybe use the larger of the designs for the corners or center area. But what a wonderful challange! Did they give you any idea's at all? Or just let you have a free hand at it? I think I would find out what other colors that they have in mind and go from there! And if you have anything left over... accent pillows would be pretty.
Good luck!

I think it would help in sewing the slippery fabrics to give them some body by pressing on a very very thin fusible interfacing. My sister did a wedding dress quilt for someone and this helped with the fabrics.
