Week One Down

.  .  .  swimming with school
.  .  .  not ANY sewing
.  .  .  4 new fish, and with the heat, the lady at the pet shop said to freeze a water bottle and let it float in the pond
.  .  .  new pencils all 'round
.  .  .  and the heat wave continues.  35.5 degrees at 3.30 and expected 42 degrees tomorrow!  My garden is stressed to the max and leaves are dropping left right and centre.

can you send some of your heat this way please?

I think the fish in any ponds here are welcoming hot water bottles.

I'm so glad I took a photo of my Best Friend rose while it was still gorgeous cos now it is anything but!! And brown, crunchy grass is definitely not attractive. Not to mention the sight of a melting 50-something-year-old.......

Its all crunchy and shrivelled over here too - its a bit depressing really....

I'm glad its only one day of extreme heat this time; last week was just too much. Ive just done a pre-emptive ice-cream run to the supermarket, because last week they sold out!

I've noticed a lot of people are throwing blankets etc over their plants...not a bad idea.

It looks like Autumn at my place, shrivelled up leaves everywhere!

Congrats on the new fish! Does your pond get any shade? We put up an umbrella over part of ours to help shade it in the summer. The water bottle is a good idea too.

Interesting about the fish.

Congratulations on the one week of school.

We were supposed to have a break from the 40+ temperatures tomorrow, but it is not to be.

Our shop apparently was running low on cordial, this morning we needed some and thankfully it was there.

I always know things are grim in my garden when the buddleia looks sad and wilting. Let me tell you at 43 degrees and hot winds the buddleia in sad!!! I am so looking forward to wearing a cardigan again. Maybe monday..... We can only hope

Good idea for the new fish. Your poor garden, I hope you get some nice cooling rain soon. We have had plenty of rain here (on the Sunshine Coast, Qld) and now we are having a few sunny days.(temps of around 26oC here on the range) Quite cool for this time of year really.(not complaining!)

Phew - 42 degrees is just too much. It's minus 5 here this morning!

I drove into the city one evening this week and all the plane trees were dropping their leaves it was an amazing sight. All the leaves were whirling around the cars.

Hia Annie, I heard the news.I hope you are doing OK. I'd send some of this rain/snow we've been having if I could.

We used oxygenating weed when water levels dropped in the heat as the fish kept needing to gulp air.

ooo new coloured pancils- beautiful sight you're almost afraid to use them. A bit like a new exercise book- all that lovely paper and it seems a shame to write on it. :-)

I am so sorry to hear about the heat in your neck of the woods and the fires that have started.

I was going to comment re the burnt leaves...it looks as if a bushfire has gone through with white and brown instead of black......but when we look at the actual bushfires and the desolate landscape of Victoria we are so blessed.

I have always love new pencils and crayons. Are you far from the fires?
