Help needed -

I don't quite know where I am at the moment.
I want to do some sewing, but I just don't know where to start.
I have been consumed by my garden of late.
I could find things to do out there infinitum.
School has just started back.
Busy busy times . . .
I need some distractions,
but I want to sew something.
I love my garden, but I want to feel the love in the sewing room -
any ideas?

Hi Annie. I know how you feel about the garden but if you want to sew something you best go ahead and do it. Once spring really gets here you are going to be too busy otherwise. I can hardly wait myself.

Make some mug rugs from your scraps. I've seen some beautiful ones out there and I know you could make some wonderful ones!

Or a fancy new skirt :)

How about working a favorite flower or two into your sewing design?

I know what you mean about gardening. I've been out and mine when I can trying to get as much accomplished out there before the heat and humidity of summer get here. This morning I finally cleaned off my needleworking surface so that I can start on the next project. My fingers are itchin' to be stitchin'.

Have a wonderful day ~ FlowerLady

Pies and Tarts. Maybe do a cushion of pies and tarts? That's what I'm going to try!

I reckon you should quilt a garden, best of both worlds. Autumn is just about here so a slow winding down of glorious colour then a quiet sleep.. Time enough to make a quilted garden..!

Maybe you could come and work in the yard for me and I could go and sew for you??

I'm with FlowerLady, work your garden into your sewing, perhaps design a new quilt featuring some snaps of your garden, on printable fabric?

Hi Annie, I know how you feel, just on the edge of starting a new project. Sometimes I find it is ok to just go with the flow and let yourself be consumed by the garden -inspiration will grab you!

Sometimes you just have to put one part of your life in order to feel happy with doing other things. Perhaps your garden is being a bit needy at the moment.

Can I commission a baby rug for one of my Speechie friends?

You clearly need a new dress!

With flowers like you have... it would be hard! But then... I'm sewing for a new little granddaughter... and that's all the inspiration/motivation I need!
There is an old saying that I may paraphrase: It goes "Make Hay While The Sun Shines" (basically, do the haying while the sun shines and other things when it doesn't... but maybe I would say to you, Gardening While the SunShines, Sewing at Night? Good Luck! And if your late for work... just show them what you have to pull yourself away from each and every day! I'm sure they will have empathy!

Yes sometimes you do have the itch to stitch. I suppose it depends on what you want to do.... Sometimes I feel like I just want to sit in front of my machine and other times I just want to use my hands. Which would you prefer?

I know this feeling...garden or/and sewing! I've found my personal solution which is: my spare time in spring and summer (mainly) belong to the garden and autumn and winter is perfect for sewing. And if I feel like sewing in my "garden time", I do fast and easy projects in order to get some satisfaction...
By the way, I (always!) love your flower pictures!

Well, I have this basic rule about how to manage the sewing vs gardening thing. If it is raining or too hot/cold outside then I sew, if it is sunny, pleasant and there are things to do in the garden, then gardening wins. Doesn't always work, when that happens go with what you feel like doing.
