This is WHAT SCARES ME!

My worst fear came true during the holidays. Last holidays we were ridden with Chickenpox, and this year... my 12 year old son, who has Aspergers Syndrome and doesn't like anyone touching his hair, combing his hair, cutting his hair, washing his hair or even talking about his hair, was discovered with a Tokyo City sized colony of nits and head lice in his enormous mop that he loved, on top of his head. Believe me, there were "tears before bedtime" that night. The good news however, is that they seem to be gone now, and I have been able to give him some type of haircut and he looks quite respectable for going into his first year of High School THIS WEDNESDAY ... this also scares me!

Good to hear you were able to get rid of the nits in your sons hair.
I had heard of Aspergers Syndrome but didn't reaally know what it was about so thanks for the link to the site explaining the condition.
Hope all goes well for high School.

What a nightmare! Head lice are awful to deal with at the best of times but with the added complication of how your son feels about his hair it must have been horrendous! Glad you were able to sort it out and thanks (she says sarcastically) for that delightful (again sarcasm!) photo of a giant louse! Great!

Pr. C-W has been in the grip of an infestation of 'head bugs' this past month. Short of shaving her hair off we have done everything!

I figure it must be someone at school keeps a healthy supply to hand b/c I have used two different sorts of chemicals, loads of brushing through with tea tree and mint conditioner (Yay Boots!) and finally CK bought a magic new comb. It has whizzy spiral teeth and gets out eggs as well as the bugs themselves. Now using it every few days and the creatures we find are getting smaller.

BTW good luck and fun times at 'High'.

Oh you poor thing - how traumatic for you both. Glad to hear they have made a hasty retreat.

Oh Annie, I know how traumatic that was. Fingers doubly crossed for Wednesday. Now get your thinking cap on - what are you excited about for this year, we are sure to be asked tomorrow!

Awful creatures, aren't they? I'm always checking my kids hair for them. So far so good, but I suppose the law of averages says its bound to happen one day.

oh my that does sound like an absolute nightmare. Good luck with wednesday. We have been lucky so far with the head lice thing (banging her head heavily against some wood!). Just thinking about them makes me all itchy.

We really enjoyed Pippi Longstocking too.

Head lice are a daily topic at schools here too. I’m glad you managed to get rid of the nasty little creatures. I hope your son will have a wonderful time at school. Take care, it will be very exciting for the both of you!

OMG! You poor things, we too have had the head lice epidemic in this house hold, hold your breathe that they don't come back. My daughter had them for most of her Year 5 year, until she changed class room and friends.
Glad it got his haircut and good luck in high school. My daughter is going into Year 8 on Thursday.

I'm glad you got rid of them - I'm going to be the strange one and say they don't bother me - a legacy of teaching in some remote places.

we had them back over the summer, although, fingers crossed, they are all gone now.

glad you were able to shorten the hair - it's like pulling teeth in this household.

Hi Annie - loved the cactus photo - sorry to hear about the head lice and glad you sorted them out - my daughter teaches infants (mod to severe special needs) and is always asking me to check her hair for them. She's only ever had one infestation about 10 years ago but I got them all with a huge bottle of conditioner and hours spent with a fine comb. Such was her horror, that even her pillow, quilt, sheets etc etc had to go!!!!

Hope everything is going well at High School... Nits, someone should blow them up (not on our kids heads though).. cheapest nastiest conditioner is the best thing to get them out, coat the head and use the comb.. gets the nits and the lice out.. I have tried EVERYTHING and this is what works for us.. also, not letting the child that reinfects my kid visit! so far so good *fingers crossed*
